MSB Family Portal

Good morning, MSB Familes:

You may have seen a report that aired last evening on Fox news regarding Baltimore County Public School buses having improper mechanical inspections and failing fuel tank straps that pose a significant safety issue. The report prominently features buses transporting Maryland School for the Blind students.  (Here is the link: Baltimore County School buses with broken parts pass inspection, carry students)

According to the report, BCPS pulled five buses off of their routes for repairs in response to this concern. County Schools said in a statement that “BCPS will replace the fuel straps on these buses and all others showing signs of deterioration” even though “the present condition of these straps do not pose an immediate safety concern, as fuel tanks are also surrounded with a heavy-duty steel reinforcement cage that supports the fuel tank, secures it from movement, and protects it from impact.”

In response to this report, we are reaching out to both the BCPS Superintendent and the BCPS Transportation Office to inquire about additional steps they may be taking in response to this concern to keep MSB students safe.

Thank you,

W. Robert Hair, Superintendent (he, him, his)
