Giving Enriching and Transformative Education
Help us create more life-changing opportunities for students at The Maryland School for the Blind.
Our mission at The Maryland School for the Blind (MSB) is to serve children and youth who are blind or low vision of all abilities—from birth to age 21—throughout their unique educational journeys. It’s through the support of the State of Maryland, local school districts, corporations, foundations, community groups, and charitable individuals that we’re able to go above and beyond for students as we carry out our mission each and every day.
Investing in Students’ Futures
With the financial assistance we receive from the State of Maryland, all donations made to MSB directly benefit the development and well-being of our students—enhancing their quality of life; fueling their interests; providing the programs, tools, and facilities that fit their individual needs; and so much more. Plus, 100% of our on-campus services are free to students and their families—from education and housing to technology, supplies, and meals.
Every gift made to MSB is an investment in student achievement. Your donations help make the following possible:
- Tuition
- Expanded Core Curriculum
- Out-of-School Programming
- Statewide Services
- Family Support Services
- Infant and Toddler Services
- Residential Services Program
- Summer Programming
- Extracurricular Activities

There are a variety of ways you can support the success of MSB’s students, faculty, staff, and families. Your generous contributions—no matter the type or size—make a world of difference in the lives of those we serve. Giving options include:

Meet Amaurie, the Hiking Expert
Recent MSB graduate Amaurie quickly adjusted to his new environment when he arrived at MSB after experiencing some setbacks at his previous school. With orientation and mobility skills at the top of his list, he was immediately assigned an orientation and mobility (O&M) instructor to help him catch up on important lessons in cane travel and movement. After eight incredible years at MSB, and working with his O&M instructor, Amaurie is able to travel independently and with ease—allowing him to engage in one of his absolute favorite activities, hiking. Amaurie has been able to explore challenging trails in MD, NY, VA, TN, KY, and WV with his family thanks to the hands-on, no-cost services at MSB.
Meet Nadia, the Social Butterfly
Nadia had a close-knit friend group and a routine at her public school, but her parents knew she was still struggling to feel like a normal kid. When she came to MSB in the 6th grade, Nadia had trouble speaking to close family members, but in the past three years, her confidence has sky-rocketed. As a member of the MSB residential program, Nadia has improved her social skills and found her individuality. She loves sharing a dorm with five other students and taking turns planning after-school outings, and she spoke about the difference MSB has made in her life at a recent groundbreaking ceremony with a crowd of over 100 people!
Meet Kimar, the Athletic Superstar
Kimar had tried several schools before being referred to MSB to find support for her Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI). At MSB, she quickly excelled after staff determined there needed to be a shift in her educational goals. From there, she became passionate about learning, and she found a love for sports. With MSB’s many mobility tools, Kimar has participated in cheerleading, track, and soccer. Best of all, she has found lifelong friends in her teammates and mobility skills that will help her enjoy even more exciting activities in the years to come.
