Peer Recognition Award Program

Reintroducing the Peer Recognition Award Program! (formerly the STAR Award Program)

The revamped recognition will be fully rolled out in 2023 but in the meantime here is the link to nominate any peers and co-workers that you believe have demonstrated extraordinary examples of the MSB Values (Accountability, Integrity, Collaboration, Transparency).  Please include specific examples of how these values and behaviors have been recognized in the classrooms, dorms, or general work areas.

Maryland State Library for the Blind & Print Disabled (MD LBPD) Summer Programs

This year’s theme is “All Together Now,” which celebrates unity and friendship. This summer, we have more activities and events planned for you and your family. Prizes, author talks from The National Library Service, a community drumming circle, and much, much more. Registration is now open!

Camp ABILITIES

Julio 10th – 14th

An overnight sports education camp for youth ages 9-17 who are blind or visually impaired. Located on the campus of The Maryland School for the Blind. Swimming, Goalball, Beep Baseball, Blind Soccer, Judo, Biking, Track and Field, Fitness Activities, and Campfires. Cost: $200.00

MISLE – Mastering Independence Skills through Living Experiences

Junio 14 – Application/Interviews
Julio 12 – Orientation
Julio 17- 28 – Program with overnight, Lunes through Viernes

A work and independent living experience for blind/low-vision students ages 16-21 on the MSB campus & surrounding community. Admission to the program based on application and interview.


TrECCk for Success

Julio 17th-21st, 9 am – 3 pm
Ages 6-15

The 2023 TrECCk participants are stranded on a deserted island! Have you heard of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC)? These are the concepts and skills that often require specialized instruction with students who are blind or low vision. Surely the ECC can teach us something about surviving life on the island. Maybe through the ECC we will even get some clues for how to escape…

Lion’s Club Camp MERRICK

Julio 23rd – 27th

An overnight outdoor education camp for youth ages 9-17 who are blind or visually impaired. Located on the beautiful Potomac River in Nanjemoy, MD. Swimming, canoeing, archery, fishing, rock climbing, hikes, and camp fires.

STEM Career Exploration Lab 2023 – 3D Printing and Astronomy Camp

Calling all High School Students and Graduating Seniors! Thinking about planning your education and career journey? Interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)? Join a research study to help improve STEM for students with visual impairments! Funded by the National Science Foundation Principal Investigator Dr. Thomas Madura of San José State University. As part of this study, use tactile models, sound, and hands-on activities designed for the visually impaired to:     

  • Build a 3D printer and make objects using 3D printer
  •  Learn about the universe from actual scientists
  •  Hear the Sun and use sound to understand light and waves
  •  Build a constellation in 3D and trace the life cycles of stars
  • Discover the shape and structure of star clusters and galaxies
  •  Learn about the Big Bang and the structure of the universe

Meet and talk to STEM professionals with blindness/visual impairments like:

  •  Kenneth Silberman of NASA – Engineer, Programmer, and Patent Attorney 
  • Nicolas Bonne – Astronomer and Project Lead for the Tactile Universe

Go on free field trips to local museums and STEM businesses!
Room and Board available for participating students with visual impairments*
Twenty-four hour safety and supervision: camp assistants, social activities, and new friendships

 *Residential component is only available for students with visual impairment. Limited to the first twenty applicants!
A few spaces are available for sighted students.

East 120 are published authors! The students worked extremely hard to learn about Haikus, how to write one and then writing one themselves. The topics were student choice and they did a marvelous job on each one of them.
