Need some #MondayMotivation? We found it in a 13 year old young man named Miles Bridges. Miles is a 7th grade student at Central Middle School in Anne Arundel County, MD.
Miles had no connection to MSB prior to making a very generous donation. When asked why he chose The Maryland School for the Blind (MSB) to give the gift to, he said that he could not imagine attending school virtually as a blind student. Miles has been learning remotely during the COVID pandemic and knows firsthand how difficult it can be. He thought about how much harder it must be for students who are not able to see, so he decided to research schools for the blind in Maryland and found MSB.
Miles recently celebrated his Bar Mitzvah, a coming-of-age tradition in the Jewish faith and decided to donate the money he received as gifts to MSB! He wound up donating $1,840.00!
At his virtual Bar Mitzvah celebration, which was attended by over 60 guests, he prepared a blind simulation skit, to get people thinking about what it is like not to have vision. He then explained his decision to donate his gift money to MSB.
The students and staff of MSB are so impressed by his generosity, as well as the thoughtful way he chose to increase awareness of the challenges of blindness, we had to share his story with you.
