Social Work
The Maryland School for the Blind Social Work department serves students with visual impairments, their families, vision staff and community schools, to maximize the benefits of all learning opportunities. MSB Social Workers use a “person in the environment perspective” with distinct focus on the powerful interplay between student, family, school and the community. The department provides comprehensive diagnostic assessments, works in collaboration with community systems, is part of the Low Vision Clinic team and provides outreach services statewide.
To help our students access their education in the best possible way, we provide:
-Clinical counseling
-Crisis intervention services
-Self-advocacy training
-Social skills
-Staff and parent training
-Networking groups for parents
-Parent advocacy training for their child
-Access to community resources
-Comprehensive diagnostic assessments
The Social Work department provides consultation and training to our staff, and work as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide the best educational experience for students.
