Students who participate in extracurricular activities at The Maryland School for the Blind get to explore their physical, creative, social, and career interests with like-minded peers. They are able to more easily make friends by trying something different that brings them in contact with others who share their interests and curiosity.

According to a recent study by the Nellie Mae Education Foundation, children who participate in after-school programs are more engaged in and have a better attitude about learning, perform better academically, and enjoy an increased sense of accomplishment, competence, and self-esteem.
